Just the name itself intrigued me! I got them from a collection at Just4Teachers (for free!) and they go along with our reading series (but you could use them with any series).

I almost always have a chapter book going, too, and I always try to choose one in a series, or by a favorite author. My class LOVES the Boxcar Children books, Roald Dahl, Harriet the Spy, and Magic Tree House books- because I introduced them to them through read-alouds!

I think it's also important to read from different sources. We read books, we read magazines, we read online, we read newspapers, we read catalogs, we read comics... anything!

I will have to check out this book for sure! I would also suggest The Book Whisperer, if you haven't read it. She has so many wonderful ideas for making reading enjoyable!

Jenny
Luckeyfrog's Lilypadluckeyfroghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09338266098096236978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-704209166001504321.post-80226566033427620982012-04-14T12:21:43.073-05:002012-04-14T12:21:43.073-05:00I have been trying to think of ways to incorporate...I have been trying to think of ways to incorporate more poetry into my daily routines...with third graders, the sillier the better!

Julie
Light a Fire in Third GradeJuliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01992369365034263003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-704209166001504321.post-74876372390019822522012-04-14T11:21:13.667-05:002012-04-14T11:21:13.667-05:00Love this list! I just bought Bruce Lansky's, If Pigs Could Fly... and Other Deep Thoughts. Kids really like his poems! I also agree that nonfiction reading is important. I usually focus on one poem a week as part of my shared reading.
