My iPads have arrived! Yay!! I am so excited about getting these for my Title students. I can just imagine how excited they are going to be to get to use them!
I have my own personal iPad for at home, so I know how to use it and what to do with it. But I need your help for the ones at school!
I ordered 6 iPads for the students to use and one for the teacher- that's me! I have a few ideas for things for me, like the app for running records. But I need to know more of what I need!
Please help me out! I have 3 categories of what I KNOW that I need to KNOW. Feel free to let me know what ELSE I need to know that I didn't think of! :)
Needed:
* apps specifically for the reading teacher-me!
* apps specifically for literacy for grades K-3
* how to set up and maintain these 6 iPads
I really don't know how it would be best to sync (?) 6 iPads so that I only have to buy an app once, but have it on all 6 student iPads. If you know how I should do that, please, please pass on your secrets!
Leave me your ideas and favorite apps PLEASE! I would appreciate it so much. You can leave me a link to your blog post on ipads too if it will help me with those 3 things.
Thank you, thank you for helping me out! I feel like I got this great new car, but can't take it out of the garage yet!
Hi Lori-
ReplyDeleteI am SO excited for you and your students- woohoo for iPads! You and your students will just love them! These are hands-down my favorite apps that I use every week with my kindergartners and 1st graders (but they can be used for older students too)
1. Popplet Lite
2. Good Notes
3. Show Me
4. Screen Chomp
5. ABC Magnetic Alphabet Lite
I have posts about each of these apps and how I use them...just click on our iPad Apps in our Labels on the sidebar if you want to get some ideas. :)
Can't wait to see what you do with the iPads with all your readers!

Signing in with your apple id will allow you to download apps you purchased on each Ipad.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Your kids are so lucky! :)

Congrats! I have 5 that I use in my Kindergarten class. If you sign in with your apple ID and use icloud, you can sync all of them. I then put each app in the same place on each Ipad so they are easy to find.
ReplyDeleteApps I love:
Reading Eggs has some great ones
Starfall
Vocabulary Spelling City
Monkey Word School
Word Wizard
Lakeshore All About Letters
Scholastic Storia
Have fun!

Hi Lori! You are going to love them! I have some tips on my blog. :) www.sprinklestokindergarten.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteErica :)
I'm just getting started with ipads, too. I only have one, but I'm hoping that will grow! So far, I really like Monkey Word School for the kids and Eggy Nursery Rhymes. The teacher app I probably use the most is Stick Pick. It allows you to enter your roster and it puts their names on craft sticks as if you had a can in your room that you drew names out of. I use it ALL the time!

Always an Adventure in Kindergarten
Hi! I teach first grade and have 10 ipads. I will share some of my favorite apps, but also be sure to download appsgonefree and smartappsfor kids. They give alerts on apps free for a limited time.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite apps are:
Math-number pieces, math duel, splash math, scoot pad, hungry guppy, marble math.
Reading: pocket phonics, storia, starfall, scootpad and many various stories I have downloaded.
Please email me if you have questions.
heyjbales@sbcglobal.net
We also bought headphones with microphones for the children to record their reading- for fluency and headphone splitters so that kids could share the ipads.
I'm so jealous!!! I want one!

As far as purchasing/sharing apps, you'll need a common apple I'd for that. However, unless you ALREADY have several paid apps you want to put on these new iPads I highly suggest you have a separate apple id for the new iPads instead of your personal one.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to help you out more if you need it :) there are lots of tips and tricks I've learned from having several apple products and syncing them all at home. One day I'll need to worry about doing it for my classroom!
Good luck!
Hi! You are so lucky to have your iPads in class! I would definitely download a QR Code Reader and here are some apps I have:
ReplyDelete1. Read Me Stories
2. Sentence Magic
3. Long Vowels
4. Meet the Vowels
5. Magnetic Board
6. Word? HD
