Character Ed & Picture Books

Are you required to teach character education in your room?  Or do you teach it anyway because you know that caring, kind, and respectful students makes for a better classroom?

DeAnne from First Grade and Fabulous is having her wonderful picture book linky again this week.  This week the focus is on pictures books that can be used to teach  character education.  There are literally hundreds and hundreds of books that are great for teaching character ed.

One thing about picture books...they have great themes and lessons to be learned.  As you teach those skills, you can also be teaching your students the same things.

Be yourself- be true to you

Forgiveness, patience

Self-esteem

Accepting of others who are different

Honesty

 Respectfulness

Responsibility

  3. I teach in an International Baccalaureate school and I have a bulletin board called "Books with Attitude." I love The Empty Pot for teaching integrity, and Amazing Grace for teaching commitment. Or sometimes I use Amazing Grace to demonstrate enthusiasm and Ruby Bridges to teach commitment. I have used Odd Velvet to teach the attitude of respect in the past, but I love the idea of using the Grouchy Ladybug!!
