I hope those of you on Fall Break have enjoyed it and are ready to go back rested and relaxed! We do not have Fall Break. We do have off school on Monday, but we have meetings all day. All the schools in our district get together and attend meetings.
I am beginning to see improvements in my RtI groups. I have 2 tier 3 groups so progress is a little slower in arriving and usually comes in small amounts at a time. But it is showing up and that is what it is about! We progress monitor every week to check progress being made. If progress is not being made adjustments in teaching must be made. I look forward each week to this. It kind of holds us accountable- both student and teacher. I really do love to use data!
I am not assessing for fluency yet, but I like to use Reading A-Z books to work on fluent reading. One of my Tier III students is having trouble holding on to his final sounds in words he is breaking, so we are going to take a step back this week and do some ending sound work. That is why you see the Ending Sound Sort from my Spring Literacy Centers.

I got an idea from my friend, Carolyn, at Kindergarten: Holding Hands and Sticking Together.
She was posting about exit slips- using sight words on exit slips for extra practice. I thought that was a great idea and made some fall letter cards for exit slips. My students need this extra practice and motivation!
You can pass out a letter card to each student before lining up to leave the class. Call out a letter: If you have the letter "D" you may line up. It is extra practice for the students and a quick assessment for you! Here are some ideas of ways you could use them as exit slips:
* Letter Identification
* Letter Sounds
* Beginning Sounds of Words
* Ending Sounds of Words
* Vowel Sounds
* ABC order (you may line up if your letter comes after the letter P)
This week is cowboy/western week with Reading Celebrations on Friday. I've got lots of fun learning planned! I will share next week what we did.

DeleteI love Reading A to Z books for fluency and then for letting students highlight sight words, vowel patterns, etc. I do the same thing with exit slips :) I think there are so many "extra" opportunities to practice during the day :)
