Yay for another Wordless Wednesday linky party!
Here are two of my book baskets. I have my books categorized by levels. Each book has a sticker that matches the basket it belongs to. I like using Fountas and Pinnell leveling the best. Students in grades K-5 can come in and out of my room so I needed a way to help them chose books that would be appropriate to their reading level since I have so many book baskets. If I were in a regular classroom, I might not level my books. I might have them categorized by author or subject.
How do you categorize the books in your classroom?

I have done several different ways of leveling...subject, grade, but I haven't done F&P...did you level them through Book Wizard? I think I just found my last week of school project...

DeleteI teach first grade and have my books organized by genre/topic. Each book has a label inside that shows students which bin to match the book back to when they are done. Our school is a HUGE proponent of AR, so my books are all leveled using the AR levels. I have a second sticker inside each book with the AR level and quiz number. Students just quickly check inside the cover to see if the book is at their personal AR level before they read it. It works for us! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of organizing the books in the classroom by genre/topic. The labels are very helpful to the students for getting the books back where they belong.
DeleteI have a bunch levelled with F & P but the rest are loosely sorted by topic. And I mean loosely! Haha. This years bunch has a hard time putting them away properly and I've gotten a bit lazy there, too:)
ReplyDeleteBarb, it seems my book baskets always need some of my attention! The kids will bring me books sometimes to show me they are in the wrong place. I just ask them when they see that to help me out and just place them where they do belong. :)
